General Information CANTONWP 1.0 INTRODUCTION CantonWP is a wordprocessor that allows input of colloquial Cantonese characters as well as standard Chinese and English. It also serves as a useful learning tool for Cantonese and Mandarin. Please refer to the Help pages by selecting Alt+H. GENERAL USAGE GUIDE CantonWP is a Unicode UTF-16 Cantonese and Mandarin wordprocessor. As well as enabling Cantonese input using colloquial Cantonese characters, it also serves as a useful learning tool for the student of Simplified and Traditional Chinese characters, Cantonese and Mandarin. As it is Unicode UTF-16 based, alternative Chinese-encoded webpages such as in Big5, GuoBiao or UTF-8 can be easily copied from Unicode-enabled browsers and pasted as UTF-16 characters into CantonWP. To enable Chinese UTF-16 display for browsers, set the default font for Chinese language to MingLiu font. If MingLiu font is not installed on your computer, it can be found in C:\\res\mingliu.ttc. INPUTTING TEXT Input Chinese text by typing in the Yellow input field. To input using Sidney Lau Cantonese romanization, select Options->Cantonese input, and then enter the pronunciation in the yellow text field. To input the Chinese character for 'me', enter 'ngoh5'. On pressing the numeral '5', a selection of numbered characters will appear in the blue selection box. Select the desired character by entering the number in the yellow input field, and then pressing space to enter the character into the white edit box. To input characters using Pinyin, select Options->Mandarin input, and do likewise. CREATING, OPENING, EDITING, SAVING AND PRINTING TEXT Select File from the top menu bar, and then New, Open, Save or Print to manage CantonWP UTF-16 files.
